Waste management

The key principles developed at Carrefour for implementing and improving waste management are:

  • preventing waste production,
  • reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills,
  • reusing and recycling waste,
  • safe waste storage,
  • transferring waste to authorized and licensed organizations.

In the first three quarters of 2019, and as a result of the transfer of biowaste to compost sites, we reduced the amount of waste sent to landfills by over 2 453 tons. Our main goal is to recycle 100% of the waste of hyper and supermarkets by 2025.

For a good climate

Transport

In order to optimize transport and reduce the number of empty transfers from warehouses to the headquarters, Carrefour Poland had introduced backhauling which currently represents between 20 and 30% of the company’s transport activity. Moreover, Carrefour Poland in maximizing the height of carriers with the introduction of pallet collars, managed to optimize the trailer load and consequently, reduce the distance covered. The Transport Management System enables as well to optimize the whole shipping process from the supplier to the store, by among others, using electronic seals to monitor the truck location.
