The first edition of the ABC project took place in 2015 and was aimed at children and seniors.
During the program, 240 workshops were conducted by 70 experts from 6 research centres for people with a difficult socio-economic background.
The series of workshops covered 5 main topics: nutrition, dietetics, senses and consumption, hygiene and cooking. Distinct workshops scenarios were prepared for each group.
The results of the research conducted a year before confirmed the insufficient knowledge about appropriate nutrition among the participants. However, and at the end of the workshops, 80% of the participants had better results in a test about food products and nutrition, compared with their results at the beginning of the program.
The 2nd edition of the program “The ABC of Healthy Nutrition” organized under the title ‘The ABC of Children Nutrition’ ended in September 2016. Its aim was to increase nutritional awareness and consequently, eliminate any mistake by changing dietary habits among children and young people.
Participants in the project attended a series of interactive educational classes during which they learnt how to make rational dietary choices, compose and prepare balanced meals, keeping the nutritional value of products and hygiene rules in mind.
The organizers conducted workshops for 1 000 participants, with among them 40% with a disadvantaged financial background. Apart from these workshops, the company also organized special events in Carrefour hypermarkets for encouraging children and their parents to adopt an healthy diet. More than 2 000 customers as well as employees of Carrefour stores with their families took part in the events.
The 3rd edition of the program started in October 2017. This edition had been enriched with new innovations, as part of the national research project untitled “Why providing nutrition education for children is needed in Poland?”, with among others, attractive educational materials for schools, methodical manual for teachers and a mobile application for young children which aims to help them to make responsible food choices.
The initiative was organized under the honorary patronage of the Polish Ministries of Education and Health.
